Ms. Sykes entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Friday, November 11, 2011. The service to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2011 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service with Reverend Pierce Sawyer, officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Born March 12, 1931 in Charlotte, Virginia (Grammy) was the daughter of the late Byron Claudine Long and Mabel Lay Long.
She is survived by son, Charles Merrell Sykes, II; daughters-in-law, Sherry Sykes and Rachel Sykes; grandchildren, Victoria Novy, Lila Beaty, Pamela Batson and Jack Batson III; and great grandchildren, Cameron Black, Lillian Beaty and Aidan Beaty.
