Wellene H Hodge Griffin

Wellene was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina on July 18, 1934, the only daughter of Daley Horace Hodge and Esteleen Withrow Hodge. She grew up in the Daniel Town Community & graduated from Harris High School as Salutatorian of her class. As a youth, she was active in Tanners Grove United Methodist Church. Wellene attended Charlotte College in Charlotte, NC, where she met her future husband, Joe Howard Griffin. They were married on October 23, 1954. On November 9, 1961 Joe Howard Griffin Jr. their only son was born.

Wellene was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church in Pineville, NC. Wellene & Joe were both very active in church affairs. She served as Sunday school teacher, Youth leader and was a two time winner of The United Methodist Women’s Pin for her outstanding work in the church. Wellene retired in 2000 as a receptionist after a 35 year career with Wrenn Handling.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 10 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Pineville United Methodist Church, 110 S. Polk Street, Pineville, NC. A funeral service will be held at Pineville United Methodist Church Wednesday May, 11 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Forest Lawn East in Matthews, N.C. Memorials can be made to Pineville United Methodist Church.
