

Born in Pelzer, SC on July 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Waymon E and Daisy Rhodes Chastain. He entered the US Army at age 19 where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After honorable service to his country, William was awarded a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and a United Nations Service Medal.
Following his enlistment in the US Army, Mr. Chastain worked for most of his life at Duke Energy. After 35 years of service, he retired and started a family business in lawn service and landscaping. He was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church and was also a former member of the Masons.
Mr. Chastain will be remembered by many for his dedication to those he served throughout the years. All who knew him loved him and called him friend. William loved working with his hands outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and faithful Carolina basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Iris (Helms) Chastain. He was the dedicated father of Rod Landis, Regina (David) McNair, Ricky (Latricia) Chastain, Randy Chastain, Ronnie (Jennifer) Chastain, Robbie (Jane) Chastain and Jason Chastain. He was the cherished brother of Leroy Chastain and Dearl (Lois) Chastain. William had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his son, Derrel L. Hagler, his daughters-in-law Sue Landis and Patricia Britt Chastain and sister-in-law Margie Chastain.
The family will receive friends from 1-3pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. The funeral service will begin at 3pm with Pastor Currie Dail officiating.
Interment will be held on Monday, December 24 2018 at 1pm at Salisbury National Cemetery. The service will honor Mr. Chastain’s service and dedication to the country he loved. Honorary pallbearers are all of his sons who loved him and want to be like him.
