

William Craemer, Jr., 94, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Sharon Towers. He was born in New York City on March 18, 1917 to the late William Craemer and Helen Louise Anger Craemer.
Mr. Craemer graduated from Swarthmore High School, Pennsylvania in 1934 and from the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School, in 1938. He lettered in track and field (shot put and discus) at both institutions. At the University he was a member of social fraternity Alpha Chi Rho and honorary fraternities Beta Gamma Sigma and Pi Gamma Mu.
During World War II, he served in the Quartermaster Corps, principally at the Jersey City Quartermaster Depot, New Jersey, until 1946. Thereafter, he returned to public accounting, where he became a partner in the CPA firm of Charles S. Rockey & Company, now part of Deloitte. After retiring from that firm in 1978, he spent many years of volunteering with his church, the Presbyterian Foundation, Community School of the Arts, Queens College, local PGA golf tournaments, Highland Renaissance Academy, and other organizations. He joined the Philadelphia Kiwanis Club in 1950 and remained an active Kiwanian for the rest of his life, serving the Mecklenburg Kiwanis Club in various committees and officer positions from 1967, and the Carolina District as Lieutenant Governor for a year. He enjoyed golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking, swimming, bowling, traveling, and reading.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Craemer was preceded in death by Victoria Augusta Zarbounes Craemer, his wife of 40 years; his brother, John Henry Craemer and his wife Betty Anna Kepner Craemer; his older sister, Helen Dorothy Craemer Staley and her husband J. Howell Staley; and his youngest sister, Virginia Carolyn Craemer Oler and her husband Wesley Oler, III.
He is survived by his younger sister, Alice Ruth Craemer; his three children, William James Craemer and his partner Guy Hal Huggins of Charlotte, Nancy Helen Craemer of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Valerie Craemer Iverson and her husband Marc M. Iverson of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Eric Lloyd Iverson and Dana Victoria Iverson; and five nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
