

William “Bill” Chester Rose passed away peacefully Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Novant Presbyterian Matthews Hospice with family and friends at his side. Born in Woonsocket, RI, Bill was the son of William C. & Maybelle Rose. As a student of Woonsocket High School, he excelled in Track & Field, winning several awards. In 1952, Bill married Mildred “Millie” Pavuk and worked at Woonsocket Spinning Co., later moving to Charlotte with the company in 1962, and retiring as Dehairing Dept. Manager. Bill enjoyed bowling earlier in his youth and with the Woonsocket Spinning team. He was an avid golfer & became a Hole In One Club member. He also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. Bill was a longtime member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Quick with a joke & a witty sense of humor, Bill enjoyed bantering with the staff and residents of Weddington Park where he resided. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, to whom he was married almost 52 years, his brother Lloyd Rose & sister Marjorie Esten. He’s survived by sister Betty Davies of Sanford, son Alan and wife Melinda, daughter Amy & husband John Fritz, grandsons Nick & Chris Fritz & granddaughter Ginni Fritz, plus many nieces & nephews. Bill’s family especially appreciates the care given to him by Novant Health Hospice as well as the staff of Weddington Park. They extend a very special thank you & gratitude for the loving care & attention provided by Alice Rowell to Bill in his final days. Family visitation will be Thursday, July 28 from 11am-12pm at McEwen Funeral Home, Sharon Memorial Park. Service in the Chapel at 12 Noon, graveside service to follow.
