Bill was born on January 14th, 1934 in Summerville, South Carolina, to parents John and Naomi. He graduated from Clemson University in 1956 with a degree in History. Following his graduation, he was drafted and stationed in Germany. After his time in the military, he began his successful sales career, and ultimately retired with the company Procter and Gamble. Bill met his wife Barbara, in a bar in Hartford, Connecticut and they were married on October 1st, 1959. Bill and Barbara had two sons, William Bond Jr. and Walter John, whom they raised in Charlotte.
When he was younger, Bill enjoyed playing in both his high school band and on the football team. He would fondly recall having to switch between the two uniforms during games. During adulthood, Bill grew passionate for exercise and was an accomplished runner and biker who frequently completed marathons, triathlons, and other races. He was an active member of the Charlotte track club and up until his final months, Bill still enjoyed walking the streets of Beverly Woods everyday. He was also a devout Catholic. Bill and his wife Barbara were members of St. Vincent for over fifty years, he also taught CCD as his boys grew up.
After retirement, Bill and wife enjoyed traveling all over the world, his favorite was their trip to Tuscany, Italy. Most recently, Bill enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Bailey. He took the role of grandfather very seriously, and would play any game Bailey asked him to (and he loved every minute of it), and as she grew older, Bill loved to communicate with her via the goofiest emoji combination he could concoct. Bill will be remembered as a die-hard Clemson Tigers fan, a caring husband, loving father and father in law, devoted grandfather, and sincere friend.
Bill was predeceased by his father John, mother Naomi, and sister Kathryne. He is survived by his wife Barbara, sons, William and wife Anita of Cary, and Walter and wife Gina of Seven Lakes, and grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen, Justin, and Bailey.
A special thanks to Amada Senior Care, especially Jasmine who provided such exceptional and comforting care. As well, as the loving friends who visited him and kept him company in his final months. Walt, Gina, and Bailey are forever grateful to all who made him feel so loved.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 at 1:30pm on Friday April 5th, 2024.
