

Mrs. Willie Mae Blue Blackwell, 90, of The Little Flower Assisted Living Center, died on April 24, 2015. A native of Montgomery County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Colin and Maggie Bennett Blue. She attended Candor High School. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Charlotte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, the late Ernest Dale Blackwell; by her son, Robert Blackwell, by a son-in-law, Jim Williams, by 5 brothers and 5 sisters. She loved to work in the garden from which many beautiful gifts grew but the proudest achievement of her life was raising her three children, who she loved and adored dearly. Ms. Willie also loved the staff at The Little Flower Assisted Living Center, especially J.J., who was especially loved by her.
Surviving Ms. Willie is her daughter, Brenda B. Williams of Charlotte; a daughter, Cynthia B. Thomas and husband Ray of Mint Hill; by a brother, Leroy Blue and his wife Diane of Florida; by her grandchildren, Jeff, Matthew and Alex; Timmy, Adam and Robbie; Jennifer and Calvin; 11 Great-Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Willie will be held in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Directors at Sharon Memorial Park on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service from 1 o’clock until 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in Gardens of Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of the customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Willie Blackwell be directed to the International Essential Tremor Foundation; PO Box 14005 in Lenexa, Kansas 66285-4005.
