To all his friends Winston Evans Sprock passed away January 20, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born January 14, 1942, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte to the late Florence Dunn Sprock and the late Howard Martin Sprock. Winston was a native Charlottean and graduated from Myers Park High School in 1960.
He then joined the United States Army and served in Laos with the 7th Special Forces (Airborne) Green Beret’s. Winston’s nephew Frank Leitner who was ten at the time reminisced about how proud he was of his brave paratrooper uncle who remained his hero forever.
Following his service to our nation, Winston went to the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!). After college, Winston returned to Charlotte and worked for NCNB/Bank of America for two decades. He transitioned to real estate at Touchberry and then to his own company Sprock and Martin. Sprock remembers watching WWF matches with his uncle and betting a quarter. Winston always took the favorite, so Martin always lost. When Martin found out it was fake, he expected Winston to give him at least a handful of quarters.
Winston loved football, especially his beloved Bulldogs. Sprock Leitner talked about Winston taking him to Shrine Bowl Games in Charlotte.
Winston loved the beach, even though as a child he ran into the road, was hit by a car, and spent the first week at the beach in bed with a fractured skull. As an adult, Winston loved the beach in a different way. He hung out at the Pad, the Pavillion, Sonnys and a myriad of other places. He belonged to the AGT, the Charlotte Shag Club, and SOS. He went to the beach with friends several times and was entertained and entertaining.
Winston loved animals, all animals. He fed animals, even the Essex squirrels. They ate peanuts off his shoes. He took walks around the Complex and the neighborhood visiting all of the cats and dogs. He talked to them, rubbed and scratched them, and fed them treats.
Friendships with his fellowman were a priority for him, He always helped any creature or human being in distress. Winston was well known at Providence Road Sundries. To all his acquaintances and his friends, he would say “I’m not saying goodbye, I’m saying see you later”.
Winston is survived by Patricia Mackey, his special friend for more than 40 years, his niece Allison Sprock, his nephews Frank Leitner (Betty), George Leitner, Sprock Leitner (Terry), and Martin Sprock (Leighann) and his cousin Fred Sprock.
