Born July 21st, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Viar and Ruby Lee (Parr) Viar of Crozet. With seven other siblings; Ronnie Viar, Donnie Viar, Linda Faye Fitzgerald, Shelby Rosson, William “ Billy” Viar, James “ Jimmy” Viar, and Deborah Burgess, she was the baby, and the prize of the family.
Loved by all who knew her, Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and role model to all.
“Barbara Sue” as most called her , never met a stranger and would go without to be sure others were taken care of.
Despite her disability, Barbara was an inspiration to the world. Independent , strong, and determined, Barbara overcame all of life’s obstacles. If she couldn’t do something, you better believe she’d figure out a way. She could do anything any able bodied person could do. Most of the time even a little better than most, but she always stayed humble.
Such a beautiful, kind, and pure soul, Barbara devoted her life to being the best wife, mother, and mamaw she could be. Much like everything else, she succeeded and became just that. She competed in the special Olympics, Miss Virginia Wheelchair pageants, and was a mentor to many people she met along the way who may have needed her help or guidance. She loved to enjoy the summer months swimming, dancing, and getting together with family and friends. She brightened every room she entered with her smile and sense of humor. When you were around her, you couldn’t help but smile. She truly was a ray of sunshine.
No words ever put on paper will be good enough to express how important and special she was to each and every one of us. Not a day will go by that she won’t be missed and remembered by anyone lucky enough to have known her.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 31 years Anthony “ Keith” Sandridge of Crozet; her children Anthony “ Logan” Sandridge (Crozet), Krystal Michelle Sandridge (Crozet) and Justin Kole Adkins (Lovingston); grandchildren, Summer Kaylene, Charleigh Elisabeth, Hannah Josie, Aubree Alise, Lyla Shyenne, Allyana Rose, Jace Kole, and Ayla Rose. Her brother, Jimmy Viar (Crozet), and many nieces and nephews for whom she cared for as if they were her own children.
The family would like to acknowledge a very special niece, Brandy Lynn Fitzgerald, and nephew, James “Jamie” M. Fisher, Nelson “Dewll” Shifflett, and Ruth Bowen and thank them for all their love and support through these troubling times. They would also like to thank Bloomfield Foundation | The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia for all their donations and support of Barbara through life and death.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bloomfield Foundation | The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia in honor of Barbara.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be announced and held at a later time and date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.teaguefuneralhome.com for the Sandridge family.
