It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Brandon Nicholas Johnson, known as “Nick’ to many. On March 20, 2026, at the age of 39, he died unexpectedly at his Charlottesville, Virginia residence. He was born March 27, 1986 in Santa Ana, California, a son of Stacey Saladyga (née Johnson). The family later moved to Virginia where he grew into adulthood and called home.
From a young age, Brandon felt most at ease in nature. This was reflected in his love of the mountains, parks, and at the shore. Nature walks, fishing, camping, and hanging out with people were restorative activities for him. Performing and visual arts played an important role in Brandon’s life. He was blessed with artistic ability, expressed through drawing, singing, and playing guitar. He was always down for a good concert to attend or listening to music.
Brandon had a heart to connect with and help others when he saw a need he could meet. He enjoyed cooking and experimenting with flavors, and sharing what he made. His love of cats was also well-known, doting on those in the neighborhood with plenty of affection and the occasional treat of canned tuna.
Brandon’s legacy of wit, humor, kind-heartedness, and his effervescent personality will endure in the hearts and minds of his loved ones and those who knew him. He is and forever will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marilyn E. Harless, with whom he shared a remarkable bond.
Brandon is survived by his loving mother, step-father, Christopher, and half-siblings, Colin and Bronwyn, along with other extended family and step-family members.
Cremation has taken place and a gathering to honor his life will be held in Charlottesville at a later date.
