
Carolyn Robertson Ross, 71, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Friday, June 10, 2016, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born on Valentine’s Day in 1945, in Martinsville, Va., the daughter of Inez Robertson and the late Russell R. Robertson. Carolyn in survived by her mother; former husband, H.H. Pete Ross Jr.; daughters, Jennifer and her husband, Patrick Dwiggins, and Kimberly and her husband, David Bergman; three grandchildren, Eric, James, and Anna; a brother, Donald R. Robertson and his wife, Allison; and a sister, Betty Robertson Loving and her husband, Joel; two nieces, Kristen and Katie; and two nephews, Nicholas and Andrew. Carolyn attended Albemarle High School, where she was head cheerleader and homecoming queen. She later graduated from Averett College, where she studied retailing, and then Virginia Commonwealth University, with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, and a master’s degree in career and technical education. After this, as a local educator, she served in Albemarle County Schools as both a teacher, career planning specialist, and vocational coordinator. She recently retired from the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice where she was a youth transitional coordinator. Carolyn’s colleagues always admired her presence and guidance. She was well-liked and known for her calm demeanor, persistence, and dedication to excellence. Carolyn’s primary focus and devotion was always directed to her children and grandchildren. Her family was first in her heart and always on her mind. She will be missed, but fondly remembered by all the lives she touched. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901, with refreshments following the service. A family graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville. Va., at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016.
