Catherine Bryan Corish — Katie to all who knew her — died peacefully the day after Thanksgiving following complications in her treatment for myelofibrosis, after having received a stem cell transplant last month at UVA Medical Center. She was 68 years old. Katie was born to Julian and Virginia Corish in Savannah Ga, where she attended St. Vincent’s Academy (’64), before going on to study English Literature and creative writing at Notre Dame of Maryland University (’68). She was the owner-broker of the New House Company Realtors in Charlottesville for 35 years, as well as an active member of Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church, Unitarian Universalist. Katie was also an intrepid traveler (she visited all seven continents), a devoted correspondent with hundreds of friends of all ages, and a passionate supporter of many progressive social causes. Most significantly to her, Katie was a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and mentor. She is survived by her siblings Julian Corish, Virginia "Honey" Manor, and Linda Lewis; her sons, Bryan and Julian Close; her grandsons, Asher and Jonah; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at TJMC at 717 Rugby Road on Tuesday at 11 AM. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MPN Research Foundation or to Doctors Without Borders.
