Catherine Mattox Pierce

Catherine Sue Mattox Pierce, 83, of Palmyra, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 at a local hospital. Born November 24, 1931 in Bedford, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Nester Mattox and was the wife of the late William R. Pierce, Sr. In addition, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Latimer and Mable Bowden, and one brother, Powell Mattox. Catherine was an Estee Lauder representative with Miller & Rhodes Department Store for many years. She is survived by four daughters, Lisa Pierce Berg and her husband Stephen of Centreville, VA, Cindy Nowak and her husband Dave of Palmyra, Debra Amos of Roanoke, and Donna Jinks and her husband John of Tampa, FL; one son, William “Randy” Pierce, Jr. of Charlottesville; three sisters, Barbara Catron of Bedford, VA, Mary Leigh Blankenship of Vinton, VA, and Joyce Marr of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Jimmy Mattox of Christiansburg, VA and Henry Mattox of Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2014 at the Teague Chapel with Mr. Lindsay Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2014 at the Teague Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
