Charles “Chuck” Kiehl was born on May 20, 1947, in Washington, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Washington High School, earned his undergraduate degree from West Liberty University, and later completed his MBA at Illinois State University.
Chuck dedicated over 35 years to State Farm Insurance, retiring in 2006 as Operations Manager for the company’s Mid-Atlantic Zone. Even in retirement, Chuck stayed happily busy and connected to the community he loved. He served as a Mediator for Positive Solutions Group and, because he genuinely enjoyed meeting people, he also drove the customer shuttle for Brown’s Honda and worked at Bold Rock Cidery in Nellysford.
Throughout his life, Chuck believed in showing up for others. He was actively involved in his community and served in numerous roles, including President of the Rockfish Valley Community Center Board. He also supported organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House and the Literacy Foundation, among others. Chuck was known for taking the time to truly get to know people, for caring deeply, and for his bright smile and his strong work ethic.
In addition to spending time with his beloved family, Chuck loved cheering on his two favorite football teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Virginia Cavaliers. He also enjoyed hitting the golf course with his friends.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Cathy Kiehl, of Nellysford, Virginia; his daughter Courtney Lowe (Matt) of Archdale, North Carolina; his daughter Krista Bell, of Raleigh, North Carolina; his son Wes Heptinstall (Lisa) of Bloomington, Illinois. He also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Ann Levers of Riverside, California. He was a proud “Pap” to six beloved grandchildren: Julianna Heptinstall, Gabi Heptinstall, Lydia Bell, Dylan Lowe, Hudson Bell, and Christian Lowe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
