

Christopher Morgan Brookfield died June 15, 2018, in Charlottesville, Virginia; he was 82 years old. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Robinson Brookfield and his two children, Nora Miller Brookfield, married to John H. Bocock, and Christopher Lord Brookfield, married to Eliza M. Graham. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Brookfield. He had 6 grandchildren: Willis H. Bocock, Marianne R. Bocock, Nora B. Bocock, Nicholas M Brookfield, Skye C. Brookfield, and Samuel C. Brookfield. Christopher graduated from St. Paul’s School in 1954 and Princeton University in 1958. He served as a First Lieutenant in the army from 1958-1961. Christopher received an M.A. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1963 and a B.D. in Theology from Union Theological Seminary in 1968. He taught philosophy and religion and served as Chairman of the Religion Department at Phillips Exeter Academy from 1963-1975. Christopher became Dean of the Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia in 1975 and was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1981. He served as St. Catherine’s School Chaplain from 1988-1995, and was Associate Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church from 1988-2008. Throughout his life, Christopher inspired students, parishioners, and friends with his powerful intellect and distinctive insights. He was a gifted preacher and a beloved educator. In his later years, he added his deep, rich voice to The Jeffersonland Chorus in Charlottesville. There will be a private graveside ceremony; the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
