Corey Raymont Kinney, 51, of Charlottesville, Virginia, entered his heavenly home on Friday, May 23, 2025.
He was born on February 6, 1974, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, to Diane Kinney and Eugene Kinney. Corey was the youngest of two children. He grew up in Charlottesville and attended Charlottesville High School.
Corey was employed for many years at Eaton Crouse-Hinda. Upon relocating back to Charlottesville, he joined his father, Eugene Kinney, in operating the family business, EJ Cleaning Service, LLC, where he took great pride in his work and making his father proud.
Corey's big smile, shining white teeth, and infectious laugh brought warmth into every room he entered. He was a man full of knowledge, always willing to share his insight and offer guidance to anyone willing to listen or learn. He believed in and embodied the values of love, justice, equality, and understanding.
Corey was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan who loved fishing, music, and spending time with his older sister Genia, and close friends, Ra Kelley and Brandon Howard. He enjoyed relaxing under the tree on Druid Avenue at his mother Diane's, grilling at family gatherings, and playing with his grandchildren and great-nephew. Corey cherished life's simple joys and treasured time spent with loved ones. He was a member of Mt. Amos Baptist Church and also attended Union Ridge Baptist Church in Charlottesville.
Corey is survived by his mother, Diane Burns Miller (John); his father Eugene Kinney (Joyce); his blended sister, Andrea Jones; his daughter, Swan'nice Brown; his sons, Vince-Swan Brown, Anthony Lloyd, and Aiden Kinney; grandchildren, Leilani and Jeremiah; and his dear great-nephew, Masego Rivera. He also leaves behind his loving companion, Angela Catoe; uncles, Ricky Kinney, Calvin Burns, Howard Burns, and Charles Johnson; aunts, Adele Stinnie, Elsie Johnson, and Tracey Kinney; nieces, Nyonica Kinney and Nadia Taylor-Kinney; as well as many loving cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving sister, Eugenia Diane Kinney; his blended brother John Miller, his grandparents, James and Frances Burns, and Burnie and Gertrude Kinney; aunts, Ruth, Anne, Marion, Carolyn, and Gloria; and uncles, Robert, James, and Burnie.
Corey's life was filled with compassion, laughter, and love. Though his time with us was too short, the impact of his love will echo for generations.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Union Ridge Baptist Church, 2980 Hydraulic Road, Charlottesville, VA. The service will be held on Saturday June 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
