David Ding was born in Shanghai, China on December 18, 1946 to Ding Yung Hwa and Ding Chung Cha Inn. By the time he was 17 years old, he joined and served honorably and proudly in the Chinese Army and Merchant Marines. He immigrated to New York City where he met his future wife, before long they moved to Charlottesville where he became a lifelong resident of Charlottesville, Virginia in 1975. He left behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Verna Cheng Ding, and is survived by his two children, daughter Charlotte Ding Gray and son Matthew David Ding. He is also survived by his son in law David Edward Gray and his only grandchild Brandon Morgan-Steven Gray, and three Step-Grandkids, Myles, Bryant, and Harrison. David Ding was a well-known bartender at The Aberdeen Barn for over 30 years. David Ding was known to have a stiff hand that could pack a punch. All of his customers loved him because he could look at you and remember what your choice of beverage was and before you sat down he would have it ready for you. His favorite quote was him saying that he was not so much a bartender but a beverage consultant. He loved bartending and his customers so much. Those that met him once will never forget him. He touched thousands of lives. He was kind, passionate, big hearted and had a great sense of humor. He was also a huge sports fan, dedicated himself to the Miami Dolphins and of course The University of Virginia Cavaliers. Go Hoos! He retired in 2012 and his favorite past times is playing with his grandson, playing his favorite lottery numbers, and playing poker with the boys on the weekend! He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
