

Born August 23, 1944 in Charlottesville, he was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and friend to all. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother George and Janice Thurston Layne; In-laws, Berlin and Aleese Fox Funk, brother in-law Roger Baber Sr, Nephew Charles “Bubba” Baber, great niece Elizabeth Baber, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Donnie was a professional truck driver and retired after 30 years of service with Conagra Frozen Foods. He was also a spokesperson for the Teamsters Union drivers. He came out of retirement in 1999 and worked another 11 years professionally driving for T.M. Turf Company, Inc.
He is survived by his wife Betty A. Layne of 54 years; three sons, Donald “Davy” Layne Jr and his wife Dana, Rodney Layne and his wife Alissa, Gregory Layne and his wife Jennifer; seven grandchildren, Willie Layne and his wife Meagan, Michael Layne, Chris Layne, Brooke Layne, Brandon Layne and his wife Morgan, Gill Tinder, Tyler Tinder; three great grandchildren Hunter, Noah and Kyler; treasured cousin Melissa Pritchett; special co-working friends, Tom Oakley and Francisco and many other family members.
Donnie was a lifetime resident of Crozet who enjoyed traveling, an avid Nascar racing fan, loved the great outdoors and being with family members.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of him to the charity of your choice; Hospice of The Piedmont, Cancer Society of Charlottesville or Western Albemarle Rescue Squad.
