Doris L Moore

Doris was born on March 22, 1928, in Corbin, Kentucky, to Frank William and Irma Adams Livingston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of seventy years, James Wallace Moore, and her two brothers Wayne Adams and Maurice Jett Livingston.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Sue Slater (Tom) of Ashland, Virginia, and Joyce Ann Moore of Stanardsville, Virginia; a son, James Wallace Moore II (Barbara) of Charlottesville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Timothy, Genera and James Slater and Taylor Moore; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Before marriage, Doris attended Berea College of Berea, Kentucky. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education degree at the University of Virginia, graduating with the first co-ed class in 1974. She taught at Hollymead Elementary School and, after retirement, worked seasonally for the Internal Revenue Service.

Doris, a former member of First Baptist Church, was a founding member of Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, both of Charlottesville. She was an avid University of Virginia football and basketball fan. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. Doris traveled extensively, with her husband to conferences in Europe, with her family to Barcelona, Spain, and, in retirement, to Alaska, Florida, New Zealand, Hawaii, Australia, and Europe.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge and Hospice of the Piedmont for their extensive compassionate care and support.

A memorial service will occur at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, 1525 Stony Point Road, Charlottesville, Virginia, followed by a reception at the church. Interment of ashes will be private.
