

Dorothea "Dot" Utter, age 88, of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.Born on October 10, 1926, in New York, Dot was a daughter of the late Henry and Wilhelmine Luhmann Harmeyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Kachura in 2005.Dot is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles Utter; her daughter, Nancy Utter of New Hampshire; sons, Craig Utter of Charlottesville and Brian Utter of Vermont; sisters, Eleanor "Ellie" Utter, Mildred "Millie" Anthes, and Florence "Flossie" Scott; and six grandchildren, Melissa, Melanie, Shandiin, Kiilbahi, Naatalgaii, and BizhdeBah. Dot is also survived by a large circle of friends that she loved dearly.Dot was a graduate of Berkley Secretarial School in New York City and maintained a close and loving friendship with her fellow classmates. She and her husband raised their family and worked in New York before retiring in Virginia.Dot was an active, long time, member of Peace Lutheran Church. She devoted her time to the Altar Guild and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. For many years, Dot sang in the church choir.A Memorial Service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor Lauren Miller. Inurnment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Dot's memory to Peace Lutheran Church, 1510 Broad Crossing Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911.Condolences may be offered to the family at teaguefuneralhome.com
