

Elsie Schuyler Chamberlain, 83, of Charlottesville, Va. passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 15, 2016, in Richmond, Va. Elsie was born in Charlottesville, Va. to Bernard Peyton Chamberlain and Elsie Schuyler Williams Chamberlain on November 23, 1932. She was a graduate of St. Anne’s School in Charlottesville and Pine Manor College in Massachusetts. She worked in the travel industry for all of her life, and she owned Chamberlain Travel Services in Charlottesville, Va. She travelled extensively, including leading group tours on many domestic and international trips. Upon her retirement she moved to Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and in recent years returned to Virginia. Elsie was passionate about genealogy, was active in the Peyton Society of Virginia, was a member of the Colonial Dames Society, and The Jamestowne Society. She devoted her time to many volunteer organizations, including the Junior League, the Battered Women’s Shelter, and The Garden Club of Virginia. She was an active member of St. David’s Anglican Church in Charlottesville, Va. She loved playing cards, especially bridge, and enjoyed perfecting her skills at needlepoint, ceramics, and painting. Elsie treasured time with family and we will miss her warm smile. Elsie is survived by her brother, Bernard Peyton Chamberlain, Jr.; children, Elsie Schuyler Larsen, Peter Melvin Larsen, Jr. (Cindy), Blair Chamberlain Larsen (Joel), and Jonathan Elmer Larsen (Amanda); grandchildren, Dare Chamberlain O’Ravitz, Adam Justin Larsen (Kayla), John Carter O’Ravitz, Andrew Nicholas Larsen (Hilliary), and Peyton Augustine Larsen; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at St. David’s Anglican Church, 70 Colthurst Drive, Charlottesville, Va. A reception will immediately follow at the church. A private family interment took place at the UVA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Garden Club of Virginia, 12 E Franklin St, Richmond, VA 23219.
