Born November 7, 1926, to Ray and Mattie Stribling Wood, Elizabeth grew up on the family farm in Albemarle County with three sisters and four brothers. LIfe on the farm taught her hard work and responsibility- qualities she carried throughout her life.
In 1947, she married Galen M. Maupin, who preceded her in death in 1966. Together they had three children: Kenneth Maupin, Warren Maupin, and Barbara Maupin Hill.
After Galen's passing, Elizabeth raised the children and managed the family business, Maupin's Service, located on 29 North (the site of todays Target.) She pumped gas, checked oil, and handled all aspects of the business with the helped from friends and family. Later, she worked at her son's store, Maupin's Grocery, where her sandwiches became a local favorite. Her final job was at Sears, selling exercise equipment for 10 years before retiring. In every role, Libby loved meeting people and making friends- a trait evident even in her school report cards, which often noted her "whispering" too much.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband and son Warren (February 2024). She is survived by Kenneth and his wife Linda Mizell Maupin; their children Amanda (married to Seth Goodrum, parents of Nicholas and Lucas), Brian, and Paul (married to Erin Reynolds Maupin, parents of Chloe and Ivy). Warren's children are Christy Maupin of Staunton; Jaime Petrailia (children Oliver and Violet); and Galen Maupin. Warren's widow is Kelly Pritchard Maupin and they shared three daughters- Erica Peak, Jessica Coltrain, and Taylor Parkhurst- and five great-grandchildren: Everett, Hudson, Wells, Lewis, and Graham. Barbara and Jim Hill have two children: Mac (married to Kristina Hill, parents of Sicily and Tatum) and Sydney (married to Anderson Bouton). Elizabeth is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews from the Wood and Maupins families, many of whom celebrated her 99th birthday with her on a beautiful fall day.
Libby cherished her friendships through church, ELM meetings, Albemarle Ruritan Club, Earlysville High School reunions, Rosewood, and her genealogy research adventures with friends and cousins. She had an extraordinary memory for names, dates, and stores from every stage of her life.
The family thanks all who enriched her life with friendship and love. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to help someone in need. You may mail condolences to Kenneth A Maupin 3974 Pritchett Lane, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
