

Frank was born on May 19, 1931, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois to his parents, Frank Arthur Patterson and Dorothy Grace Caulfield. On February 15, 1951 he married Flora Mae Larsen. From 1953-55 he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes area, bringing the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to residents there. After graduating with a business degree from Brigham Young University, he worked with his father in his seminar business. At age 33 Frank established Motivational Concepts, Inc. through which he taught short courses on sales, customer relations, and communication skills to business leaders nationwide. His most popular course was “The Effective Use of Language.”
He lived in Charlottesville, Virginia for 53 years, where he served in The Church of Jesus Christ in the office of High Priest. His faith in and love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, was rivaled only by his love for his wife and family and his zest for life. Known for his ever-present enthusiasm, positive attitude, and wonderful sense of humor, he brightened many lives. Frank was an avid bicyclist, motorcyclist, private pilot, sailor, disc jockey, world traveler, and beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Frank is survived by his wife of 68 years, Flora Mae Larsen, and by his children, Dorothy Karen Phelps (husband Ronald W. Phelps), Mark Gregory Patterson, Lorin Eugene Patterson (wife Lori A. Pace), Frank Alexander Patterson (wife Dana “Bunny” Thurston), and by 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, George Franklin Patterson and by his grandson, Hunter Alexander Patterson.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1275 Timberwood Blvd. (off of Airport Road), Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 11:00-12:00, followed by funeral services in the chapel from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The dedication of the grave and burial will take place at Holly Memorial Gardens at 3251 Seminole Trail, in Charlottesville, Virginia after the funeral.
