

Iris H. Houchens, 78, of Scottsville, VA, departed this life on February 20, 2018, to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on August 23, 1939, the daughter of William Lawrence Hinton and Dorthy Turner Martin.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Raymond P. Houchens; and her children Theresa and Johnny Patterson, Wayne and Lyn Herring, Lionel and Patricia Herring, Heidi and Jeff Thomas, Mary and David Wikoff, Jr., and Craig Herring, to cherish her memory and continue sharing the love and unwavering support she gave.
Iris has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who continue cherishing her loving memory and who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Erma; two brothers William (Bill) and Rodney; and grandson Tyler Patterson.
Her living siblings Delores, Brenda, Howard, and Buster, as well as cherished sister-in-law Cherry, will continue to think of her fondly and with love.
A service of joy, remembrance, and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11:00 am, at Scottsville United Methodist Church, 158 East Main Street, Scottsville, VA 24590. Pastors Bruce Lugn and Clay Marsh will officiate. The family will receive friends and loved ones in the church fellowship hall directly following the service. Iris’ family will hold a private entombment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Iris and her family ask that donations be made in her name to the Hospice of the Piedmont or Scottsville United Methodist Church.
