

Jean Corbett, 88, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on February 26, 2015. She is survived and dearly missed by her family: son Jim Corbett and his wife Maddie of Charlottesville, VA; daughter Kathy Kelly Walker and her husband Don of Forsyth, GA, daughter Pam Corbett Slabinski and her husband Mark of Reston, VA; grandchildren Douglas and Andrea Corbett; Jessica and Stuart Kelly, Laura Walker, and Emily and Michael Slabinski. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Roy Corbett and her brother, Harold A Greig. Jean was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, on June 4, 1926. She grew up in St John, New Brunswick and graduated from McGill University with a degree in Physical Education. While teaching at Springfield College in Springfield, MA, Jean met the love of her life, Roy Corbett. They married in 1954. After receiving his Masters Degree, Roy became an officer in the US Marine Corps. Jean was the consummate military wife and mother, running the household while her husband served on overseas tours. She was a strong lady yet loving mother. Jean was very involved in each community in which she and Roy lived. She sang in the church choir, served as church deacon, served as president of the Officers Wives’ Club and served as an officer of the Ladies’ Golf Association. After Roy retired, Jean and Roy settled in Sun City Center, Florida, where they enjoyed golfing and socializing with their many friends. After Roy passed away in 2003, those friends became like family and they meant a great deal to her. Jean and Roy were members of the United Community Church in Sun City Center. In August, 2014, Jean moved to Charlottesville, VA, to be closer to family. Jean will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will accompany the burial and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday April, 30, 2015 atArlington Cemetery. Please meet at visitor’s center at 12:15.
