Born Grace Jeanette Moss on October 8, 1925, in Richmond, Virginia, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, J. Earl Barnett and her son Cecil Thomas Barnett, both of Charlottesville, and by her sisters Elizabeth Carter of Charlottesville and Myra Ann Alexander of Richmond. She is survived by her daughter Courtney Ann Cronin (Ken) of Roanoke, her son James Barnett (Sarah) of Yorktown, daughter in law Tracy Barnett of Crozet, and grandchildren Scott Cronin, Leigh Ann Hamlin (Jack), Elizabeth Glidden (David), Charlie Barnett, Jesse Barnett, Brittany Barnett, and Kable Pluger(Ben) ,four great grandchildren, and by four nieces and their families . She was a resident of Charlottesville for nearly 70 years, and during all that time was a loyal member of First Baptist Church, where in the 1950s she helped start the church's kindergarten program. Until her retirement, Jeanette was a UVA administrative employee working for Dr. Wilford Spradlin. She will be remembered for the many people she touched with her phone calls, letters and cards; she never forgot anyone's birthday or anniversary and liked to share in the joys and burdens or their lives. She never failed to watch UVA's football and basketball teams whenever they were on television, and shared in their joys and tribulations as well, forever maintaining strong opinions regarding UVA coaching staff. She was strong in her Christian faith and wore out a number of Bibles with constant reading, underlining and notes. She was devoted to her entire extended family and in constant communication with each of them, and she will be sorely missed by all. Her local family, including Tracy, special friend Bonnie Payne and niece Janet Vanderlinde were her constant support and lifeline over recent years. Our sorrow is tempered by the firm conviction that she is reunited with her beloved husband, son, and sisters in the world that follows this. A funeral service will be conducted at Teague Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 1PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens. Please visit teaguefuneralhome.com to leave a message for the family.
