She was born on Long Island, NY, and was predeceased by her parents and brother, and numerous beloved pets. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Albert L.Huber, also of Covesville, Virginia; four children; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grand children.
Jeanne was the first woman in her family to attend college. As valedictorian of Bayside High School in Bayside, New York, and as a New York State Regents Scholar, she was awarded a full four-year scholarship to Barnard College. During her college years, she served as Vice President of Columbia University Christian Association. She then earned a master's degree in teaching government from Teachers College of Columbia University, where she garnered multiple accolades and was a member of several honor societies.
She remained a fierce advocate of women's education and rights throughout her life.
Jeanne worked for nearly six decades with Al at his medical office, where she managed
all the "back office" logistics needed to keep the practice running. She also acquired numerous hobbies that she pursued passionately, from mycology to organic farming, and became an extraordinary gardener and gourmet cook. She was proud of learning to raise sheep and Italian Maremma sheepdogs, the first of their line to be bred in the US.
As a couple, Jeanne & Al were dedicated to helping Cove Presbyterian Church grow into a real community that felt like extended family. She and Al hosted numerous international exchange students and families at their Covesville home over the years.
Jeanne was a gifted photographer with a deep appreciation for light and nature. She was a kind, brilliant, spirited woman who gave generously of her time and energy to all those around her. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to offer their thanks to Dr. Carolyn Dalldorf and staff at Pantops Family Medicine; the Martha Jefferson Sentara Hospital Emergency Department and Inpatient Hospitalist and Palliative Care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and support staff; as well as to Hospice of the Piedmont, Visiting Angels, and Bright Star Eldercare.
A Memorial Service will take place at Cove Presbyterian Church in Covesville, Virginia, January 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. Please consider making a donation in Jeanne's honor to to Barnard College, Cove Presbyterian Church, or the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA.
