Jessica, "Ms. Powell",  was a child at heart.  I have had the honor to have worked with her for many years at Agnor Hurt and she was always about helping kids in so many capacities.  When I first met her she was coming into my room quietly as a teacher assistant for a kindergarten class and by the end of that first lesson I knew a lot about her.  She was crazy creative and she loved to work alongside the kids.  She was always looking for inspiring things to do and to bring to her afterschool job at Mountain View Elementary.  She was kind.  I loved to make her smile!  She also was not afraid to speak up for herself and helped a lot of other teacher assistants understand the ins and outs of the job.   There are no words to lessen the pain of the sudden loss of Jessica.  She was a beautiful soul and she will be so missed by kids and adults from all over who were lucky enough to have met her.

She touched the lives and will be missed by so many people. 
I have fond memories of our trip to Busch Gardens and Water Country as well as attending Monticello High School musicals with her.

I thought we had so much time to do all the things we had talked about doing. More vacations together, more dinners, more shopping trips, more everything. She was the keeper of all my secrets, my unbiological sister, my best friend in the entire world. There are so many hard things in life that await and I don’t know how I’m going to get through them without her.

Kanan my 5 yr old Autistic son was obsessed with you from the first day he met you Jessica. He came home and all he kept saying was Ms.Jessica. As his mom I was like who is this lady my son really loves her.  At that point Kanan was not a student in Ms. Jessica class but he would see her at recess. Kanan was struggling in his class then the idea came up of transferring him to Mrs. Winstead’s class where Ms. Jessica was the teachers assistant. Once my son got into that new Kindergarten class with Ms. Jessica he could sit still and do things for longer and i got less email about his struggles. Although I never met Jessica in person the love my son has for you let’s me know you were an amazing person. Kanan would listen to Ms. Jessica . Since you were out sick and then gone to paradise The days have been rough for Kanan. You were Kanans person. We love you and please watch over Kanan from Heaven .❤️

What do you say to a mother and father when they lose a child. I'm not sure there is anything written that could possibly help with the emotions and sadness that will consume them in days ahead. 

I could say so much but I know the words will just be words. Our children should lay their parents to rest. Not the other way around.

Jessica was a lot of fun to be around.  When ever I was with her and your family she made me feel as though I was part of your family as well. She had a huge heart.  That showed in how she was able to reach out to the children she worked with. I know that isn't an easy job, so for Jessica being able to reach the kids, she must have been made for the job! They will miss her.

Keep her in your heart, and remember the good life she had. Don't let the sadness engulf your life. Find a way to honor her achievements. Don't focus on the sadness.

We are so very sorry. My son enjoyed getting to know Ms. Powell at Mountain View. We are praying for God’s comfort. 

I'm so very sorry for the loss of Jessica. I work at Mountain View and most days I would hear her reading aloud to and with the kids and playing games with them. I know they enjoyed her presence and I loved listening to their activities. 

I only worked a couple of times with Jessica, but she left a lasting impression on me with her kindness and love of children. 

So sorry to hear about Jessica we went to school together she was a wonderful person glad I had the opportunity in knowing her prayers to the family 

Ms. Powell was one of the best teachers I ever had. She was funny, kind, and was always making fun activities and gifts for us. I loved her so much, and she will forever be missed.

Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Jessica.  I taught Jessica during her 10 grade year in High School.  She was such a great friend to many, including myself. I loved her smile, appreciated her laugh, and looked forward to hearing her share stories. 

A couple of years later, I went to pick up my son from EDEP at Cale Elementary and was so excited to see Jessica teaching in the program. She was truly gifted. Children also trusted her and found a safe space in her presence. My son always spoke about her kindness.

I was sad to hear of her passing. Prayers lifted that you find peace and comfort during this difficult and sad time.

Dear Powell family,
Please know that the staff at Agnor-Hurt Elementary has been keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.  Jessica was an amazing source of joy and comfort for so many of our children.  I fondly remember some of our most needy youngsters naturally gravitate to her, finding safety and security in her presence.  I think it's because those children could sense that she honored and respected them.  Jessica loved all that childhood offers (which is why she was also so dedicated on spirit days)!  It was an honor to work with such a fine educator and person.

My children were both fortunate enough to know Ms. Powell through their after school program. My daughter, who is now in middle school, was ONLY interested in "stepping foot" back into the elementary school to say "Hi" to Ms. Powell during pickup. They had a special connection but she was the type of teacher to make all of the kids feel seen. She truly cared about the children, even going so far as  making her entire class personalized Christmas gifts last year.  We were crushed to hear of her untimely passing. She will be sorely missed by her MVES family. My sincerest condolences to her entire family and extended family.
