John William Crawford, Jr., age 75, died on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Hospice House. Born on February 1, 1939 he was a son of the late John and Clara Ann Crawford. He attended Meriwether Lewis School in Ivy. John was a long-time resident of Fork Union, VA having made many friends in the Fluvanna County area in 30 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for Faulconer Construction in Charlottesville for over 40 years. John was a quiet and independent person who touched a lot of lives through his career. He was known as Granddaddy to his grandson and was the most helpful gentleman you would ever want to meet. He shared a strong and silent bond with the Lord – he was not boastful. In addition to his loving wife, Flora, of 42 years he is survived by his daughter Paige Henry and her fiancé Jamie Shifflett of Crozet who he loved like a son; a special grandson, Dakota Henry; a son, Randy Crawford of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Betty Ann Dickerson of Greene County; a brother, James Albert Crawford of Earlysville; and special friends, Sandra and Frankie White and Jackie and Edward Shifflett who all loved him very much. He is also survived by his wife’s three children. The family expresses their special thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Hospice House for their kind and loving care of John. Per John’s wishes no services will be conducted; rather, it is suggested that a donation in John’s memory be made to Hospice of Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Ste. 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
