Laura Jenny Ward

Laura V. Ward, age 77, died on Saturday, February 14, 2014 after a long illness at UMC hospital in Tucson Arizona. Formerly, Jennie Laura Vernon, she grew up in Charlottesville and always considered it her home. Laura was the beloved daughter of William and Elizabeth Vernon and sister to Robert Vernon.After graduating from Charlottesville High School, Laura attended Mary Washington college in Frederickburg, Virginia. Laura returned to her school work after raising three children and graduated with a BS from Harpur College in Binghampton, New York. Her second husband was John Ward and in the later years of her life, she lived in Englewood, Florida and Tucson, Arirzona. She is survived by her three sons, Michael Dowd, Andrew Dowd, and Thomas Dowd; and two grandchildren, Kathrine and Nicole Dowd.A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m Friday, February 20, 2015, at Holly Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Teague Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to the Autism Research Institute or any charity that supports children's health.Condolences may be offered to the family at teaguefuneralhome.com
