Dr. Lawrence Edward Hund, DDS (Larry) died peacefully with family by his side on March 27, 2024. He was born on April 23, 1943 to Carl X Hund and Mary Barton Hund in Galesburg, Illinois. It was a quaint Mid-Western town with brick streets and sidewalks, famous for its Victorian architecture, City Square and Main Street USA. This is where he learned the lifelong values of Faith, Family, Virtues, Sacrifice, Charity, Hard Work and Merit. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School and attended Knox College where he played on the championship Golf Team. He received a BS from the University of Iowa and DDS from Loyola University School of Dental Surgery in Chicago, Illinois in 1971. Larry met the love of his life, Constance (Connie) Marie Henning, at an after school dance in 1961 when she was 16 and he was 18. They went steady for the rest of their life and were married on August 13, 1966. They searched the country for a "Garden Spot" and picked Charlottesville, Virginia where they settled in 1971 and where Larry started at the UVA Children and Youth Clinic and soon established his private practice in Dentistry. He retired on March 1, 2020 in his 50th year. During those years he served as President of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Dental Society and was involved in many activities in the profession. Larry was an accomplished Bridge player and taught adult education classes to earn extra money while in school. His real avocation was Golf which he learned at the age of 6 and won his first Club Championship at 16. His last tournament was winning the Virginia-West Virginia Seniors Championship in his 70's. Throughout his golf career he won many Championships up and down the East Coast and holds records at numerous courses and at Farmington Country Club, his home course. He served as Chairman of the Golf Committee, and Greens committee and wrote the golf section of the Farmington Commemorative Book. He served on the Board of the Virginia State Golf Association. His motto was "Practice Makes Perfect" and was seen on the course in all weather conditions and was famous for "hitting out of trouble". He loved to coach and give tips to his fellow golfers. Dr. Hund was involved in many youth activities as his children grew. He was commissioner of the Youth Basketball League and coached both young boys and girls teams. He coached teams in Little League Baseball and the youth SOCA league. He was a stroke and turn judge in the Jefferson Area Swim League. He also became involved in youth golf and helped start the youth golf program at Farmington. Larry is survived by his wife, Connie and their three children: son Brenton Eldridge, wife Stacy, and children; William Riley, Wyatt Ethan, and Vivian Marie of Atlanta, GA.; son Stephen Walker, wife Elisenda, and children Marc Alexandre, and Evan Paul of Barcelona, Spain; daughter Elizabeth (Heidi) Hund Robinson, husband Tim, and children London Rose, and Audrey Celeste of North Garden, VA. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Frank Hund, and sister Barbara Hund Utech, brother-in-law Arthur Utech, and sister-in-law Laura Henning King. Funeral Services and burial will be private and a Celebration of Life will be held on April 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Farmington Country Club, 1625 Country Club Circle, Charlottesville, VA 22901. In Lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the American Heart Association or the Charity of your choice.
