Lore A. Percival (nee Strohlein), 73, of Strasburg, VA passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Lore was born in Arlington, VA and spent much of her life in Northern Virginia.
For 38 years, Lore dedicated her career to advancing the mission of The Foundation Schools in Largo, MD as Chief Financial Officer. In that role, she played an integral part in championing students facing social, emotional, and learning challenges. Her passion for the school’s mission endured, and even in retirement, she remained a dedicated supporter.
Beyond her work, Lore found joy and inspiration in the natural world. She loved hiking in the Shenandoah mountains. She brightened the world with her beautiful gardens, delighting visitors to her home — as well as the hummingbirds and bluebirds that came to visit. Her home became a welcoming sanctuary filled with charm, including her beloved collection of ornamental rabbits.
Through her art and photography, Lore captured and shared nature’s beauty, leaving those around her with a deeper appreciation for life’s simple wonders. Lore’s kindness knew no limits. She gave unselfishly of her time, her heart, and her talents, touching countless lives with her kindness. And, Lore loved her dogs and continued to befriend every dog that passed by.
Lore is survived by her mother, Winnifred Strohlein of Front Royal, VA; her brother and sister-in-law, Marc and Patricia Strohlein of El Granada, CA; her sister-in-law Terry McGann of Cudjoe Key, FL; and her nephew, Alexander Breakwell and his family, of Alexandria, VA. She is preceded in death by her father John Strohlein and her husband James S. Percival.
