

RUMBLE, Lucille (Dettor), 93 passed away June 22 in Covington, KY after a long, wonderful and varied life. Lucille was born in Charlottesville, VA where she was raised by her mother Emma Johnson Hammon, step father David Clinton Hammon as well as many loving aunts and uncles. She graduated from Lane High School (Class of 1938) and attended Mary Washington College where she pursued the study of library science. In 1944 she married Harry Hamilton Rumble II (deceased) who was serving as an officer in the United States Navy. Together they would live and love in places as diverse as San Francisco, Ottawa, Canada, Scituate, MA, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, New York and Washington D.C. before spending 32 years in Hopkinton, NH. Lucille was equally active, and comfortable, in diplomatic circles and community organizations. She was particularly proud of her role as Treasurer and fund raiser for the Hopkinton Women’s Club throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. Lucille loved birds, especially chickadees and cardinals. She loved dogs, of which there were many, and reading. She did volunteer work in hospitals and was an advocate for diabetic care and wellness, cardio-pulmonary illness and World War II veteran appreciation. She made many cherished friends along the way. Above all else, Lucille loved her family as a committed mother and counseling grandmother. Lucille spent the last eight years of her life in Florence and Covington, KY where she was close to granddaughters and devoted daughter-in-law, Linda. In addition to her husband, Lucille was pre-deceased by a son, Harry Hamilton Rumble III of Florence, KY and a daughter, Lynne Rumble Lively of Nellysford, VA. She is survived by her son Clinton Hammon Rumble of Essex, MA, Granddaughters Allison Wilker of Newport, KY, Shannon Derenge of Louisville, KY, Millinda Fowles of Lawrence, KS, Amanda Rumble of Gloucester, MA, Clare Rumble of Essex, MA and Grace Rumble of Essex, MA. Grandsons Jonathan Lively, of Washington, D.C and Harry Hamilton Rumble IV of Gloucester, MA. Daughter-in-laws Linda Roemer of Burlington, KY, Deborah Rumble of Jacksonville, FL and Liu Hong Qiu of Essex, MA. Great grandchildren are: Stella, Lila Jane, Blair and Lauren Derenge as well as Elliott Wilker. A private family service will be held at Monticello Memorial Park in Charlottesville.
