

Rejoice! God has called his faithful servant home. Marie S. Belew passed through the heavenly gates on Monday, February 26, 2018. She was born on December 27, 1933 in Charlottesville, the eldest child of the late George L and Dorothy W Shiflett. She was wife of the late Lacy Belew, Jr, they spent 62 years together. As she entered the holy realm, she was greeted by her husband, parents, a son, Larry Wayne Belew; two brothers, Shirley L. Shiflett and James W. Shiflett; and a Godchild Cara Leigh Searcy.
An honor student, Marie graduated in 1952, from Meriwether Lewis High School in Ivy. She retired after 42 years of service from State Farm Insurance Company, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Marie was a founding member and Deacon of Rivanna Baptist Church. After retirement, she worked part-time for Sears and JC Penny. She was also primary care-taker for both her mother and husband before their passing.
Mrs. Belew enjoyed yard sales, shopping at Goodwill, gospel music, as well as making cards and flower arrangements for her friends, church and nursing homes. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret B. Sipe and her husband, Richard, of Keswick, Virginia, granddaughter, Crystal M. Bodie and her partner, Wavley Thomas, of Lake Monticello, great-grandsons, Larry Vaughn Marshall Bodie (of Scottsville) and Robert Vincent Matthew Bodie, great-granddaughter, LacyAnn Marie Thomas (named for both Lacy and Marie), grandchildren by marriage Robin Downey, Nicole and JD Robinson, Michele and Ricky Sipe and their families; a sister Margaret Shiflett and her husband, Richard of Charlottesville, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Pauline Shiflett of Smithfield, North Carolina; brother-in-laws Pete Belew and his wife Mary of Troy and Robert Cooper of Maryland; a special family friend, Lisa Searcy and her family, of Palmyra, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Her extended family members and friends, including those from her church, are countless. If she knew you, she cared and prayed for you, as well as with you. Her faith was strong. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Teague Chapel with the Reverend Larry Wingfield officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018. at Teague Funeral Home.
