April 8, 1924 - May 3, 2015 Our mother, Marion Hathaway, died this past Sunday after a long life full of love and joy in her family, friends, faith, travel and books. Daughter of Harold and Nellie Barnes of North Dartmouth MA, Marion was a proud graduate of Rogers High School, Newport RI. As a young bride, she bravely traveled across country to be with Dad in Denver, Great Falls, and Alamogordo before and after his deployment with the 401st Bomb Group, 8th Air Force in England. A US Air Force wife, she was the heart of our family no matter where we sat down at the table together: Massachusetts, Eglin AFB Florida, Chaumont AFB France, Langley AFB Virginia, and finally home to Rhode Island. Mom and Dad enjoyed twenty years of retirement in Bradenton FL. Our parents’ life-long commitment to the value of education filled our home with books, music, travel and endless recounting of the Family Story and led to all of their children graduating from college. During her career as a secretary, she specialized in preparing scientific and technical reports for research labs including NASA Langley Research Center as well as other federal civil service positions for the US Navy and the Social Security Administration. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Milton and Barbara of Culpeper VA, Malcolm and Donna of The Woodlands City TX, Meredith and Edward McKeown, Keswick VA, and Eric and Sherry of Pleasant View TN; Grandchildren Jeffrey and Allison, Ashley and Chase, Katharine, Nicholas and Helen, Jennifer and Joshua, and eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way. The Family welcomes friends to a Visitation to be held at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Friday, May 8th from 6-8 p.m. and a Celebration of Mom’s Life and Memorial Service on Saturday, May 9th at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1500 East Rio Road, at 1 p.m. Both locations are in Charlottesville, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Marion be remembered through Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1500 Rio Rd E, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. A Funeral and Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery alongside our father, SMSGT Milton Hathaway, at a date to be announced.
