

She was born on September 24, 1923 to the late Jesse Edwards and Ethel Houchens Clarke in Albemarle County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Steward Elma Walton; her daughter, Suzanne Denise Barrell; two sisters, Lilla Clarke Kidd and Alice Frances Taylor; and four brothers, Allen Houchens Clarke, Jesse Nathan Clarke, Elmer Hearn Clarke, and Clyde Edwards Clarke.
Natalie graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1941. She worked for numerous years at The Rocking Chair Factory in Charlottesville as a seamstress prior to her meeting the love of her life, Steward, who was actively serving in the military. After his time spent in the Navy during World War II, they were married on March 26, 1948 at the Hinton Avenue Methodist parsonage. Natalie and Steward both worked for numerous years at Acme Visible Records in Crozet, Virginia where she later retired from in 1985.
Natalie was always well regarded by those around her and was known for her affectionate nature and desire to care for those around her. She adored her husband and they could often be found dancing the night away at the Moose Lodge in Charlottesville each weekend or traveling across the country while making memories and enjoying one another’s company. Natalie was also an active member at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church for numerous years and was a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior.
She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Frances Clarke of Richmond, Virginia, son-in-law, Bert Barrell; Grandchildren, Nick Barrell, Audrey Barrell, Mack Barrell, and Miles Barrell; and two great grandchildren, Emilia and Lydia Barrell, in which she truly adored. She also leaves behind numerous loved ones, Bobbie and Roger McFadyen of White Hall, Billy and Pattie Taylor of
Stoney Point, Kenny and Wanda Bruce of White Hall, and Harold Ward of Crozet, Virginia. She also leaves behind her beloved dog and loyal friend, “Willow” whom she often referred to as “Baby.”
She was blessed to have such wonderful caregivers that brought her so much joy and comfort in her last months. Barbara Hawkins and Cathy Rosenberry were regarded as family and developed an everlasting bond while sharing stories, meals, and watching her favorite TV show, Little House on the Prairie with her each day.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA 22903.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Roger McFadyen presiding at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church, 4524 Garth Road Charlottesville, VA 22901. Interment will follow in the cemetery at the church.
The family would like to especially thank Sarah Graham and Barbara Hawkins at Just a Little Help, the entire team at Legacy Hospice, and Cathy Rosenberry for their overwhelming care and kindness in her last several months.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be sent to Western Albemarle Rescue Squad or Crozet Volunteer Fire Department in Crozet, Virginia.
