Nellie was born on December 1, 1939 in Nelson County to the late Lewis Thomas and Margaret Evans Clements. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William “Billy” Pugh of Covesville; brother Herb “George” Clements of Petersburg, VA; sisters Gladys Andrews of Petersburg, VA, Elsie Saunders Carter of Schuyler, VA, Jewell “Pat” Clements Pugh of Covesville, VA. She is survived by her daughter Tammy Jo Pugh of Crozet, VA and son William “Todd” Pugh of Farmville, VA; one grandson Jonathan Edward Dance of Crozet and his girlfriend Tara Denton of Richmond ; a sister Margaret “Jean” (Richard) Napier of Covesville; sister-in-law Peggy Clements of Petersburg; brother in law Eddie Pugh (Ann) of Charlottesville; life-long friend Shirley Krohn of Faber, VA; a special friend James Beck of Covesville, VA and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and her special companion, Scout.
Nellie graduated from Nelson County High School in June 1957. She got married and started her first job all in that very same month. Nellie worked at Centel for about 37 years, retiring from Sprint after their merger with Centel. She also worked in the UVA Bursar’s office, retiring in 2001 to stay home and take care of her ailing husband. Nellie was a caregiver at heart and was always doing things to help others which she instilled into her children. Nellie was a life-long member of Covesville Baptist Church, serving for many years as church treasurer.
Nellie was dealt some health issues for the past year, suffering from an aneurysm, stroke and heart failure in December and a serious automobile accident in June. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Albemarle Health and Rehab as she was continuing her recovery from many broken bones. Unfortunately the accident left her in constant pain but she was a fighter until the end. She worked hard at therapy to get back home and be with her “Scouty”. Nellie was always full of life and had a beautiful smile that would light up a room. You never doubted how much she cared about others. While she didn’t travel extensively, she did enjoy seeing new places. You could never go anywhere with her in which she didn’t run into someone she knew.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Rd, Charlottesville, VA.
