On Thursday, July 21,2022, Patricia Ann Hibbert Cooke passed away at the age of 90. Ironically, it was 13 years to the day, that her husband, David F. Cooke, preceded her in death. Among her many accomplishments, her family was her most cherished.
She is survived by her two sons, David and Todd and their wives, Liz and Lyn, respectively, of Charlottesville. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, David F. Cooke III of Denver, CO, Ellie Stoneking and her husband, Ben of Charlottesville, Allison Cooke of Manhattan, NY, Finley Stokes and her husband, Ben of Darfield, NZ and Amy Grace Cooke of Charlottesville. Additionally, she is survived by her great grandchildren, Stanley Stokes of Darfield, NZ and Ruby Stoneking of Charlottesville.
Patricia was a graduate of the 1950 class of Lane High School. With her vivacious personality, she was captain of the cheerleading team which lead to teaching and dance performance. Upon graduating from Lane, she started her career as a bank teller at National Bank and Trust until she and Dave opened Meadowbrook Washette in 1956. The business grew to become Carriage/Clearview Cleaners, the oldest dry cleaners in Charlottesville. In the late 70’s, she branched out into the bridal and formal wear business which she operated successfully for 28 years. As if running her own business and raising her two boys was not enough, Patricia embarked on an 8 year political career as a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, serving the community she loved. Another one of her many talents was gardening. Patricia, earning the designation of “Master Judge”, was an active member of the Monticello Garden Club, judging many flower shows in the Central Virginia area. Additionally, she was an avid UVA fan, holding basketball and football season tickets for over 60 years. In the early to mid 80’s, she loved hosting the basketball team for holiday meals. She was a life long member of First Baptist Church Park Street where she was a proud member of the “cradle roll”.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Noon, Friday, July 29th, 2022 at the Teague Funeral Home Chapel at 2260 Ivy Road. Memorial donations may be made to the Charlottesville Salvation Army, The Virginia Athletic Foundation or a charity of your choice.
