

Phillip Whitfield Brown Sr, 85, of Charlottesville, passed away on February 2, 2021 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Phillip was born on February 9, 1935, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Arthur and Sally Brown. He retired from the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board in 1994. He was proud to have served in the US Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and tinkering with anything that didn't work, gardening. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy C. Brown, 8 brothers, Cloys E. Brown, Ammon Brown, Paul S. Brown, Peter E. Brown, Edward M. Brown, Thomas D. Brown, Buddy Brown and Charles E. Brown; three sisters, Pearl Dirasario, Katherine Patterson and Rebecca Belleview.
Phillip is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Marshall and her husband, H. Allen Marshall of Crozet, VA and his son, Phillip W. Brown and his wife, Jackie of Mechanicsville, VA. He is survived by his grandchildren, Vince T. Marshall, Harrison W. Marshall, Samantha Brown and Meredith Brown and step-grandchildren, Wesley Parsons and Brittney Barge.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at Holly Memorial Memory Gardens at 2:30pm, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
