

Robert Bruce Hunt died peacefully at his home in Schuyler, Virginia on Monday, February 2, 2015 after a brief illness.Bruce was born on January 20, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia the son of Bessie Humes Hunt and William Frederick Hunt. He grew up outside of Chicago in Naperville, Illinois. He graduated from The McBurney School in New York City and left behind his wrestling medals in McSorley's Old Ale House on 7th Street. He attended the University of Oklahoma and upon graduating from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts he went on to become a teacher at Echo Hill Outdoor School on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He influenced the lives of many children. After meeting his soon-to-be bride, Emily Kelso Hunt, Bruce moved to Charlottesville, Virginia engaging in the building trades. He was thought of as a kind and caring person, who knew no bounds. With his gentle demeanor, booming laugh, amazing lexicon, and open heart he left an impression on everyone he met.Bruce is survived by his daughter, Helen Elizabeth "Heddy" Hunt; and his wife, Emily; along with his many devoted friends, especially his constant companion, his dog Lucky.He was preceded in death by his mother and father; mother-in-law, Helen Beal Kelso; and his dear friend, Carl Gaglio.A celebration of Bruce's life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 4 p.m. in the University of Virginia Chapel.Memorial contributions can be made to the Bruce Hunt Scholarship Fund at the Echo Hill Outdoor School, 13655 Bloomingneck Road, Worton, MD 21678.
