At age 16 he returned to Virginia to reside with his brother, Chris, and near his mother, Carolyn. He attended Harrisonburg High School and Turner Ashby High School. Soon after, he became certified as an EMT and loved working with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS), eventually becoming a Deputy Chief. At the time of his passing, he was employed by the Ridley Restaurant. Many people remember Robert for his love and care of small animals. When he lived in Colorado, his room was wall-to-wall tanks filled with either fish or hamsters, which he bred and sold the babies to the pet store. He spent many hours with his German Shepherd, Rico. He was a sensitive and caring person with a wonderful smile and an infectious laugh, who was happiest when he was helping others.
