He was born on January 11, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to Raymond M. and Wilma E. Tydings. Ron graduated from Orange County High School where he was co-valedictorian and played varsity football, basketball and baseball. Ron was educated at the University of Virginia, earning a B.A. in Economics in 1962 and an L.L.B. in 1966. He earned a tuition-only scholarship for college and worked for his room and board. He was also a member of the varsity baseball team.
Ron married Barrie Ruth Jones in California in 1962. After she worked as a nurse to put him through law school, Ron practiced law for over 50 years in Fairfax, Virginia primarily with Tydings, Bryan & Adams, P.C. and also with Odin Feldman Pittleman PC. In 1985, he co-founded Fairfax Bank & Trust Co., where he served as Chairman of the Board and General Legal Counsel.
Ron was active in the community with various organizations including Fairfax Jaycees, Evergreen Lions Club, Fair Lakes Rotary Club, Evergreen Country Club and the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, traveling, entertaining and was an avid fan and supporter of UVA sports.
Survivors include his two sons: Ronald W. Tydings, Jr and wife Ana of St. Petersburg, Florida and Kevin W. Tydings and wife Cassandra of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Claiborne W. and Katherine G. Tydings; and one sister, Jean R. Cerick of Cornelius, North Carolina.
The family will be holding a memorial service at a later date.
