

Roy William Denton, Jr., age 89, of Charlottesville passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Born on August 22, 1925 Roy was a son of the late Roy William and Pauline Ruffner Denton. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Clyde Denton and sisters Lois Boyd, Margie Denton, and Esther Smith. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Emma Berry Denton; his son, William Denton and his wife Christine of Keswick; his daughters, Patricia Burch and husband Arthur of Roanoke and Brenda Browning and husband Robert of Palmyra; his beloved grandchildren, Lindsay and William; his sister, Alice Barton of Richmond; his sister-in-law, Gwen Denton; and, a host of nieces and nephews. Roy was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. He was a decorated hero having received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat in Germany. He worked in the automotive industry for many years before joining Martha Jefferson Hospital. Roy worked with his special team in the lab at Martha Jefferson for 25 years until retiring at the age of 82. As much as the team loved Roy during his time at Martha Jefferson it should be known that he loved each person with whom he had a relationship with during that time. The Denton family expresses their sincere and heartfelt thanks for taking care of Roy during his 25 years. Roy had a green thumb. He enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens and loved to share his crops with his family and friends. Roy thoroughly loved his family. He was happiest during family gatherings when all of his most precious loves were close to him. He was a member of Louisa Christian Church and had been baptized as a follower of Christ at the age of 14. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Martha Jefferson Hope Cancer Center and Doctors Lowden and Jenkins. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00pm Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Teague Chapel. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Roy’s memory do so to the American Cancer Society.
