A New Yorker at heart, she grew up in the shadow of Manhattan growing to love the theatre district and every new show that arrived. In her youth she also followed the big bands like Glenn Miller and was one of the young girls swooning as Frank Sinatra hit the runway. The love of Broadway shows never left her.
Ruth had two short careers, one as a seamstress hand sewing beautiful wedding gowns and the other, later in life, in the accounting department for CARE, Inc., an international relief organization. Yet always, her main job was that of wife and mother.
In September of 1948 she married the boy from across the street when he returned from the war in the Pacific. They were married for 71 years.
She leaves behind her only son Cliff and his wife Ruth Ann, three grandchildren Rebecca (Charlottesville), Christopher and his wife Sasha (Wuhan, China) and Rachel Kennedy and her husband Kevin (Virginia Beach). She also leaves six great grandchildren Caleb Rehm, Lily Rehm, Avery Rehm, Sam Kennedy, Ben Kennedy and Nate Kennedy.
The later life of Ruth and her husband Cliff were made very full by their move to Our Lady of Peace. Over the years, moving from residential to nursing care, a recounting of their life would not be complete without high praise for the community that is Our Lady of Peace. The family cannot express enough gratitude to the staff for the wonderful care and caring they each received while residents there. Thank you again OLOP.
A private, family service is planned.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.teaguefuneralhome.com for the Rehm family.
