Ruth Simmons Gibson

Ruth Simons Gibson departed this life October 18, 2016 to be with her Lord. She was born February 22, 1918 in Clifton Forge, VA. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Rachel Noel Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lyman Gibson; her daughter, Deborah Jean Gibson; her brother, John W. Simmons; and a son-in-law, George H. Batten. Ruth retired from the University of Virginia Alumni Association in 1984. She was a member of Aglow International, served on the local board, and enjoyed monthly meetings and conferences. She was also blessed by Precept Bible Studies. She worshipped at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son C. Bernard Gibson and his wife Barbara; daughters, Carolyn G. Batten, Delores (Dee) G. Shiflett and her husband Calvin; four grandchildren, Jan B. Ryan and her husband Pat, Greg A. Batten, Tammy K. Shiflett and C. Ross Gibson and his wife Dawn; and eight great grandchildren, Rachel and her husband Ryan, David, Emily and her husband Charlie, Andrew, Brianna, Katie, Meaghan, and Kaleigh. Mrs. Gibson is also survived by her great great grandson, Oliver. A funeral service will be conducted 4:00 pm Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Teague Funeral Home with Pastor John Ward officiating.
