

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merto and Eleanora Rood of Charlottesville.
Paul leaves behind his devoted wife of 50 years, Judy; a son, Erick, his wife Mallory, of Charlottesville and a daughter, Carla Pratico, her husband, Kalel, of NYC, and his beloved grandchildren, Tiller and Wyatt Rood, Rosalie and Sullivan Paul Pratico.
Paul is also survived by four siblings, Cliff and wife, Jean, of Martinsville; Robert and wife, Joan, of Daleville; Valerie Hancock and husband, Jess, of Waynesboro, and Judie Branscomb of Troutman, NC.
Paul had nine nieces and nephews, Rebecca Uselton, John Rood, Laure Bowen, Donna Freeze, Rachel Pardue, Joy Hancock, Melissa Waller, Mark Rood and Cathy Clubb.
As a lifelong resident of Charlottesville, Paul attended Burnley-Moran Elementary and Lane High School, followed by Mars Hill University and Old Dominion University. Throughout his life, he was employed as Superintendent of Facilities Management at St. Anne’s-Belfield School, Piedmont Virginia Community College, and the University of Virginia.
Mr. Rood’s interests were diverse, spanning from his affection for his dogs, to his passion for sailing, water sports, Boy Scouts, landscaping, home renovation, travel out West and abroad, music, mechanics and all sciences. Paul will be remembered not only for his many talents, skills, and sense of humor but also his generosity and expressions of kindness. Primarily, he will be remembered for his love of family, family gatherings, his resilience and strong faith in God.
While a private family graveside service occurred on July 5, 2023, a Celebration of Life service will be held August 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.,. Friends & relatives are warmly welcome to attend.
