Virginia “Ginny” Swinburne Bowman of Charlottesville, VA went home to be with the Lord on Monday 22nd, September after a valiant five and a half year battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her faithful husband of 43 years, Thomas Bowman; her son John Bowman and his wife Christina; her daughter Heather Campbell and her husband Rob; her six beloved grandchildren Cooper, Bryce, Avery, Chaney, Chloe and Caiden; and her sister Susan Watson and family. Ginny was born on 16 July, 1948 in Princeton, New Jersey, daughter to Larry and Irene Swinburne. She graduated Oyster Bay High School in 1966 and attended Strayer University in Washington D.C.. She met Tom while working in Baltimore at American Security Bank and Trust Company and they were married in February of 1971. Marriage, career, and their developing family took them from Maryland to the state of Washington before returning to the East Coast in 1986. After raising her children, she successfully ran her father’s textbook readability business after his death and served many years in the Ivy, VA voting precinct. Since Tom’s retirement in 2004, they split their time between Charlottesville and Sarasota, Fl. Ginny’s presence was a beacon of unmatched joy and vibrancy, touching and leaving lasting impressions on countless people through each chapter of her life. Dignity, selflessness, charisma, and warmth are how both strangers and her closest of friends describe her. But nothing fulfilled her more than serving and caring for her husband, children, parents and extended family members. Her entire life was a living sonnet of sacrificial love. The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and administrative staff at the Martha Jefferson Infusion Center, with our deepest gratitude for the years of care from Dr. Gordon Morris, Dr. Erika Struble and Tabitha Reuschling. We would also like to recognize Ginny’s dearest friends Susan Manuel and Diane Delauney for their love and support. Friends and family are invited to a memorial reception to celebrate Ginny’s life Thursday evening, 25th September from 7-9 PM at Jefferson Park Baptist Church at 2505 Jefferson Park Avenue in Charlottesville. A prayer and brief remarks are scheduled for 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Martha Jefferson Hospital Medical Oncology Associates at 500 Martha Jefferson Dr. Charlottesville, VA 22911.
