William F. Geist, aka, Bill, 82 of Earlysville, Va passed away on April 01, 2021. William was born on April 09, 1938 in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late Margaret and Howard Geist. Bill was a very social person and had many friends from high school, college, colleagues who became friends from work and retirement. He loved golfing and was a member of the “Seniors of Birdwood” group and golfed 3 times a week for many years. He loved dogs and walking in nature. Bill received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Perdue University, Indiana in 1960 and a Master of Applied Science from Adelphi University, New York in 1964. He also took post graduate course work in advanced engineering from the Polytechnical Institute of New York. He worked as a design engineer and project manager designing and implementing Sonar systems for the US Navy and Radar systems for airports. He traveled to South America and Europe overseeing the installation of Radar systems. He worked for Hazeltine Corp. for 25 years receiving many awards for his and his teams work; and for Raytheon Technologies for 15 years in a similar capacity. He retired in 2000 and moved to Earlysville with his wife Bettie Gene Brown Geist who preceded him in death in 2009. They were married for 51 years and had no children. He was preceded in death also by his parents and younger sister Diane Margaret Geist Erickson. He is survived by his sisters Lynda Janke of Earlysville, Va. and Carol Hay of West Chazy, New York; his niece Gretchen Janke of Los Angeles, Ca; and his nephews Timothy Janke of Campbell, Ca; Clifford Hay of Tivoli, New York and Kenneth Hay of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Bandit and Daisy. A viewing and remembrance gathering was held at Teague Funeral Services, Charlottesvile, Va on April 07, 2021. Interment will be held at a later date at Holly Memorial Gardens, Charlottesville, VA. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the ASPCA, Guide Dogs of America or the Cancer Society. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses and staff at Martha Jefferson Memorial Hospital for their care of Bill in his last days.
