Mr. Yan was born on June 14, 1950, in Macau. His ancestral home was in Taishan, Guangdong Province. He was the youngest of five siblings. Bright, lively, and well-loved by his parents, he shared a close bond with his brothers and sisters. He attended Choi Kou Primary School in Macau and was active in church, where he was deeply influenced by Christian teachings from a young age.
In the 1960s, Mr. Yan moved with his family to Hong Kong, where he completed his secondary education. After graduation, he devoted himself to helping his father manage the family business and quickly gained his father’s admiration through his dedication and competence. In 1971, he married his beloved wife. Together, they started a business and built a warm and happy family with one son and one daughter.
In 1992, Mr. Yan immigrated to the United States with his family to provide better opportunities for his children. He and his wife, along with their daughter, settled in Charlottesville, Virginia, while his son pursued studies and work in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Yan continued to travel frequently between Hong Kong and California over the years. Around 2011, he had planned to return to Hong Kong with his wife to retire, but gave up that long-held dream in order to help care for his grandchildren—a testament to his loving and selfless nature.
In February 2025, Mr. Yan was diagnosed with terminal cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Even in the face of illness, he remained strong, courageous, and optimistic. In those final months, something beautiful happened—God returned to him. On June 12, 2025, he was baptized at home, finally fulfilling his heartfelt wish to become a true Christian. The very next day, June 13, the Lord and His angels welcomed this gentle and kind man into the heavenly home, freeing him from suffering. On that day, he also completed his earthly mission as a loving and devoted father.
Mr. Yan often said he had lived a happy and fulfilling life—blessed with a devoted wife, caring children, and three healthy, joyful grandchildren. His life was rich in love, gratitude, and accomplishment. Truly, as he himself said, “My life has been very complete.”
Mr. Yan has now been reunited in heaven with his beloved grandmother, mother, father, and sister, beginning a new and joyful journey. We send him off with our deepest love and blessings.
Rest in peace with the Lord.
