She was born on October 4, 1943, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Melvin H. and Betty J. (Foster) Canaday. Linda married Frank A. Sklenka on February 14, 1971, in Springfield.
Linda graduated from Feitshans High School in 1961. She went on to work as a secretary with Allis Chalmers, then as a longtime receptionist for Dr. Michael Walsh, and later retired after over 20 years in the Enrolling and Engrossing office at the Illinois House of Representatives. Linda was a member of a local bunco club for over 40 years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed walking, mushroom hunting, reading, and crossword puzzles. Linda was known as kind, selfless, generous, loving, patient, strong-willed, and resilient.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sandy England.
Linda is survived by her husband, Frank Sklenka of Chatham; sons, Dennis Sklenka (partner Travis Henke) of Springfield and Brad Sklenka (wife Kara) of College Grove, TN; grandchildren, Sam and Sawyer Sklenka; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. on January 16, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, followed by the Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
